We are using software in our labs, that analyzes images by various parameters and optimizes them on certain cirterias. This will happen automatically if you enable the "automatic image optimization". The image optimization is always used on the entire picture file, it's not possible to exclude certain areas. The image optimization procedure is not suitable for any kind of graphics, text, images with large solid surfaces, etc. In such cases, you should not activate the checkbox.
